CDAW – chapter 32

“Anyway, why did you think I hated you?”

The father wondered. If he recalled, there was no memory of talking to him about it. It is no wonder the father would not know.

“Mother, right after giving birth to me possessing high magic power, returned to heaven. Father loved mother so much, and might not forgive me, the cause of her loss/death… I thought so.”

“I certainly loved Katarina*. There is no way I would not love you, a child of me and that beloved Katarina, right? Because you are my beloved son.”

*{T/N: idk if I spelled it right, if it’s wrong, I’ll change it.}

From the father’s eyes filled with love, Assam felt a happiness he thought he had lost.

“We have to be grateful to your partner from another world. What is their name? Can I meet him?”

Father’s expression has never been gentler. That being said, when mother was alive, he often had this expression.

“Yes. His name is ‘Toki’. He is with my friends now.”

“It was Laham, Tsugura and Yarra, right? You really do not have many people around you. What kind of person is Toki, who you yourself brought him here as your partner?”

Being asked by the father, he talked about Toki. He had not told his father what he had been dreaming of before. He was happy for being able to talk about his beloved Toki to his father in a calm atmosphere.

The things he saw in his dreams, about the disease, and about what happened right before he came there. Then his father’s face returned to a king’s and his attitude hardened.

“You left your partner, who almost got killed, with the person who almost killed him?”

“Yes.”

He scolded his heart which seemed to cower in the face of the piercing eyes. I am not wrong. Because I think so. He straightened his spine and his eye’s did not show hesitation while looking at the king.

“………… Why? Do you not think your partner will get hurt?”

“I do not think so. I trust Toki. It was what Toki wanted, and what I counted on Toki, believing that if it is him, he could do it. Toki is the man Laham acknowledged as his future master in only half leaf*. I trust Laham, Tsugura and Yarra as well of course.”

*{T/N: leaf = day}

“Is that true? If I am not wrong, he {Laham} was famous for not bowing to people unless he acknowledges them.”

Hearing that, the king widened his eyes. There were many who wanted to recruit talented priests as their vassal/subordinate, and Laham was very popular for his appearance and skills.

Many of them hide evil intentions, however he broke all the corrupted hearts and rejected such invitations, and decided to work for Assam. Such person, Laham now hopes to become Toki’s servant.

“He was also asking to be Toki’s servant, quitting being the priest and healer*. He was saying a servant is not a job for anyone nor it can be done half-heartedly. Toki’s body is very weak. However, his heart {kokoro} is stronger and softer/flexible than anyone. He is like this, and that is why I love him.”

*{T/N: 医術師 ‘ijutsuji’ -> something like medicine practitioner (?), but if someone has something better, please comment!}

Slowly, the king’s expression returned to a father’s. It seemed he understood it was an thoughtful action.At the same time, it was proved Toki was not just a weak existence who can only be protected. My partner is someone who can walk side by side with me. The father whispered “I see” and leaned back on the sofa. He {Assam} was happy to be recognized by him.

When the conversation ended, a request from Laham and Toki for an audience was presented. “{Let them} Pass”, the short permission was given. Seeing Toki being carried by Laham, a sigh of relief escaped from his mouth. Trusting him does not mean he would not be worried.

Standing up, he took Toki from Laham. Inside his arms, Toki smiled softly as he looked at him and felt at ease. In those gentle exchange, Assam again felt happiness.

Half day → half leaf

So, I tried to write it in only 3rd person, but if you see a phrase in 1st person lost somewhere, let me know >.<
