Marriage – Toki

“The forest, is yellow?”

In front of me, there was a forest where a lot of trees was planted. The trunks were brown and were thick enough to be considered they were a few thousands years old.

The shape of the trees was not so different from the trees seen in Japan, but the leaves were bright yellow. Oh, I think I saw yellow and lemon green trees in the scenery that could be seen from Assam’s room. Could it be autumn leaves*?

“Is something wrong?”

Assam asked while we were walking through the forest.

“Tree, yellow.”

I wanted to ask if these were maple trees, but I did not know the word for ‘maple’.

“Trees are generally yellow. If it grows in a place with a lot of magic power, it becomes yellow, if there is little, they become greenish. Since grass has less magic power than trees, it is yellowish green color. What is the color of the trees from your world, Toki?”

“Green.”

When I was told it was yellowish green, the grass certainly seemed to be yellowish green.

“I see. Do you dislike yellow trees?”

“Dislike, no. Tree, green, change. Yellow, red, other color. Yellow, tree, there is.”

I heard an uneasy sound and answered, however I could not explain maple leaves well. Even so, it seemed he understood that I do not dislike it, and the spirit sound of Assam returned to normal.

“That is the Royal Lake. If you do not know what to do, you can imitate me, Toki. After we go through that white gate, we cannot speak until the Divine Ceremony ends. Do you have something to say before?”

I felt relieved since it was only to imitate his actions. I should be careful not to make a mistake. Ah! I have to tell him about my power.

“Have. Matter important. I, power, have.”

“Power?”

Seeing his puzzled expression, I noticed he was misunderstanding it as strength or magic power. It was not like that, but I could not explain it well. It is an important matter.

“Well. Lie, can know. Sound, image, see.”

{if you want a translation: “Well, I can discern/know lies. If I hear a sound, I can see images.” Or something.}

What to do, I said it myself, but even I cannot make sense of it. Ah, sound of confusion. Sound of sadness. Somehow, he is misunderstanding in a bad way. What should I do! Ah! I can say like this!

“Assam, mother meet, did! Dream, receive power, did!”

“From my mother? Do you want to say that you gained the power to know lies?”

“Un! I, be useful!”

I managed to tell him somehow. I felt eased when the sound of confusion and sadness ceased and the gentle sound returned. However, it is uncomfortable if the mind can be read without permission, isn’t it? Is it better not to use it after all?

“Should I, not, use it?”

“No, it is a power you received, use it as you want. It will also become a practice. You might be troubled if you are not able to use it when you need it. Besides, if you can be at ease when you are using it, it is better to use it.”

The words he said thinking about me, who did not know how to say, made me happy and I laughed.

“I will tell you because I do not want you to misunderstand, I love you even without you having a power, and I would want to marry you anyway.”

“Me too. Assam, I love, you.”

When I told him I love him for the first time as I was happy hearing his words, Assam’s spirit sound filled with happiness.

I am also happy. Seeing Assam’s happy smile, I am sure I am smiling in the same way.

Looking forward, Assam started walking through the gate/door carrying Toki.

They walked the path that leaded to the lake which was filled with light blue water. Soon, the track turned to a single white rock and they could see a western-like arbor.

After entering there, he was put down on the wide circle in the center. Two people was facing each other. The wind carried the fragrance of the forest through the space of the colonnade open on all sides. {?}

On the small white table on the right side of the two people, there was a white wine cup filled with transparent water. Picking it up with their right hand, they entwined their right arms.

Carefully not to spill the water in the cup, they took it to their lips and drank it. They undid the entangled arms and put the wine cup back on the table, and knotted their hands and offered a devoted player.

The prayers offered were the same. Once again, carried by Assam, they walked through the path. A lot of scenes flowed from Assam as well as a melody of happiness sounded. Most of them were the dreams about him, he ended up crying a bit because of the nostalgia for Japan and the love of Assam for him.

Laham was waiting for them inside a small temple that looked like from southern countries. Assam put Toki down and gently wiped the tears, telling him that it was alright and showing a smile.

When they turned to Laham, he touched their Nushi Gem. Then his fingertips started to shimmer and soon the two Nushi Gems, as if they were responding to it, began to shine.

When Laham moved his arms to cross them with a smile and gave the permission to exchange the Nushi Gem, both Nushi Gem detached from the base where they were engraved and floated by themselves.

Imitating Assam, Toki put his hands together under the Nushi Gem, and it landed on his palm still glowing. While peeking the surroundings, he remembered the next step and turned his body to face each other.

The big hands inserted* the Nushi Gem, that was gleaming a blue light, on Toki’s abdomen*. When Assam kneeled and placed a kiss on the inserted Nushi Gem, paa! A light exploded from it and the others black jewels turned into shining blue gemstones.

*{T/N: inserted [嵌める] it can be “put on”, but I think it’s more used as “put in”.}

Uwaa!! It startled me!! But it is so beautiful……

Assam did not stand up and waited for Toki. As he noticed it, Toki also copied his actions and inserted the Nushi Gem that was glowing black in Assam’s abdomen. Assam stood up. When he kissed the black Nushi Gem, paa! The jewels on Assam’s clothes turned black.

Laham walked one step backwards and Assam lifted him. {Toki, obviously.} As he settled in his arms, he saw a white door appearing behind Laham, who gave the way.

When the door was slowly opened, they were in the corridor where many cream-colored cloths were decorating the place.
